RootTime | Types of Acne : Causes, Treatment and more!
  • 20.02.10 17:24:39

Okay, let’s talk about acne! Pimple, cystic acne, product breakouts?
You’re not alone! Rooty will let you guys know about the best way to prevent, treat and soothe acne. It’s the first step of the Good-bye Acne! The first step is to understand what you are dealing with, and correct diagnosis your acne.

Do you know what exactly acne is? Without a doubt, acne is a type of skin disorder when pores are clogged with dead skin cells or oil. We all have experienced frustration due to breakouts. Likewise, acne is a common skin trouble that occurs frequently. Skin always breaks out and gets red right before important meetings. Ugh, yuck! There are different types of acne, and there are so many factors that trigger acne. If you just leave your acne unattended, like just covering it with the concealer as you pass it off as "Oh, it’s just another zit,” or if you treat it the wrong way, it can leave a very large scar that cannot be healed later.

First of all, acne is caused by excessive sebum! An increase in sebum secretion. Secondly, it is caused by hyperkeratosis of pores, which means excessive dead skin cells are blocking pores. The third trigger is infection caused by bacteria.

These factors do not work individually; they are all interrelated. Acne is caused by a tight clump of sebum inside the skin due to excessive sebum secretion and pore clogging. Here, when the skin is infected with bacteria, it causes inflammation, resulting in more severe cases.

More specifically, in our dermis, there are hair follicles and sebaceous glands attached to it. Usually, these sebaceous glands produce an appropriate amount of sebum and release it to protect our skin and keep it healthy. But if these sebaceous glands get stimulated due to hormonal changes or excessive intake of refined sugar and carbohydrates, sebum secretion is increased and the sebaceous glands get literally overloaded. They need to produce sebum and then release it, but they just keep making sebum on and on and on! So sebum gets piled up inside the glands creating clump, never to come out of the pores.

 1. Comedonal Acne

These clumps of sebum created here are called comedones. If comedones becomes bigger and bigger and comes out slightly white and yellow on the skin surface, they’re called whiteheads.

And these whiteheads are pushed out of the pores and meets with oxygen, and when they oxidize and become dark, then they’re called blackheads. These are collectively referred to as comedonal acne. When comedon is infected with p. acne, it becomes inflammatory acne, purulent acne. After all, in order to prevent such inflammatory acne, it is essential that we take care of blackheads and whiteheads?

As for comedonal acne, you have to extract comedones from the pores, and when you do this, this extraction should be done so as not to damage the skin tissue as much as possible.

So it's best to go see a dermatologist to get them extracted. But if you have no choice but to get it treated at home, don’t pop it. For whiteheads, please remove after loosening them enough by using hydrocolloid acne patch. And don’t squeeze blackheads with a cotton swab! Pop it using an extraction tool. Most of all, it's best to exfoliate and take care of sebum with BHA exfoliant that dissolves sebum in pores to prevent pores from clogging.

 2. Inflamed Acne

There are three types of inflammatory acne. First of all, red acne is called papules. Papules are an early symptom of acne, with red marks appearing on the skin surface due to bacteria. And the acne developed from red acne is yellow acne! This is called pustules. You know, the lesion filled with yellow pus that you want to pop so badly? Thirdly, resistant acne can be classified into two types: nodules and cysts.

First, nodular acne refers to the clump of sebum that is located deep inside the skin and this acne is swollen and hardened. There's a much bigger clump of sebum in the skin than that we can actually see with our eyes. And another resistant acne, cystic acne is the status where the skin tissue surrounding the acne is destroyed, so the skin gets red with the pus that is already spread widely.

Therefore, it’s the acne that is prone to scarring. The kind of inflammatory acne can leave large scars, or make more acne due to infection with other bacteria if you hastily try to extract it. So make sure! to get treatment from a dermatologist!

Therefore, in order to prevent inflamed acne, it's important that you keep your pores clean to prevent them from clogging. So, if you have trouble-prone skin with a lot of acne, refrain from using products that contain oil, and avoid having refined sugars and carbohydrates that increase your hormonal levels in blood.
